Hello there!
Today is the day that I welcome you into the fantastical world of Cato. Honestly, finding her was a blessing – someone my age who, too, loves being dorky and drooling over fashion week (currently in the aftermath of being blown away by this year’s mfw) ! But, living on opposite sides of the world, we weren’t able to meet up in person (damn!), so we kinda just did a lil post on each other!
I interviewed her, and she interviewed me (I must say, i’m not very good with answers when it comes to being interviewed ). I guess this post will be kinda all over the place but yeah, here ya go!
1. Tell us some interesting things about yourself!!
Hi! I’m Cato and I’m a fourteen year old dork living in Belgium. I love films, fashion and books and I have a blog! I spend a lot of time binge-watching series or scrolling through Instagram.
2. Living in Belgium, is there any style trends there that influence what you wear?
Not really. Since Belgium is colder than Australia I wear a lot of layers, so I get a lot of layering inspiration when I’m walking around my city! Belgium pretty much has the same major fashion trends going on right now. Sneakers, graphic tees and bomberjackets are in right now and I really like that trend actually!
3. Why did you decide to start your blog?
I started to get into fashion and stuff a while ago. I thought it would be cool to share my inspiration with everyone on the internet because I loved reading blogs like StyleRookie. I was starting to get really interested in fashion and pop culture and I thought: why not share it with everyone else? It’s just a place I could write about the things I love and sharing that sounded cool.
4. Who would be your favorite fashion designer/brand?
This is the hardest choice I ever had to make, I swear. It changes all the time but I would have to say Gucci! The last few collections were awesome.
5. Where would you source your creativity and personal style from?
I get most of my inspiration from Instagram and people I love (Tavi Gevinson, Amandla Sternberg…). I source a lot of creativity and style from movies though! What I wear often depends on my ‘vibe’. That vibe is just a mix of films, Instagram, people and brands. So I would say mainly the internet and films.
6. Would you ever want to do something in the fashion/blogging/media world when you’re older?
I don’t see myself working as a blogger in the fashion world when I’m older. I would love to make films, or have my own magazine. I would love to incorporate fashion in what I do when I’m older but I don’t think it would be the only thing I want to do! I would love to be an art director.
7. How would you describe your style?
I would say my style is pretty casual most of the time. I love looking androgynous, so I wear lots of trousers and bomberkackets to look genderless. Even though I love how vintage clothes look on people my style isn’t vintage-looking. I like layers and street-style outfits and I love modern, though-looking clothes.
8. Where do you get most of your clothes from?
I get most of my basics from stores like H&M. My more special pieces are from Weekday (which is probably my favourite store) COS, American Apparel and local stores in my city!
9. What is your absolute DREAM clothing item?!
A REAL TULLE MOLLY GODDARD DRESS.
10. Does your style change from time to time?
It changes all the time. It’s even changing while I’m typing out these answers! As I said, my style is very dependent on the films I watch and the vibe I’m into at the moment. Obviously I can’t buy an entire new wardrobe every time my style changes, so I have some staple pieces which I mix with the vibes I’m into. I always try to keep it modern though.
11. Do you reckon you feel more confident when you wear clothes that you love?
Ofcourse! I think wearing a cool outfit that you feel good in makes you more confident. It does take a great deal of confidence sometimes to go all out and wear what you want. When I was still figuring out all the fashion stuff I was a little insecure for wearing more unique and special stuff to school. Now I wear whatever I want, and I’m really glad I don’t get nasty comments on my style. Wearing an outfit you like, makes you feel good, and feeling good makes you feel more confident.
12. Do you have a clothing item that you have worn to DEATH?
I’ve worn my mom jeans so many times it got all ripped on the knees, so probably that! I’ve worn my Rodarte shorts so many times as well, but luckily they’re still in perfect shape (probably because I care for them like I would do for a child)
And finally,
13. What advice would you give to people trying to make their own way in the fashion world?
Check out lots of fashion blogs and never stop looking for inspiration. Try developing your style by wearing lots of different stuff. Try not to be a copycat when it comes to your outfits. Also, remember it isn’t ‘required’ to like certain things in fashion. For example, when your fashion idol absolutely loves a certain brand, don’t force yourself to like it if you don’t. Just because it’s fashion doesn’t mean you should like it, so be critical. And of course some more boring things: if you decide to start a blog (yay! congrats!) avoid spelling mistakes and pay attention to your layout. Comment on blogs you like, or give them a compliment via Instagram! The most important thing is to have lots of fun and express yourself! Fashion is so much fuuun!
Aaand that’s a wrap for the interview!
Now onto Cato’s mind-blowingly unique style, which is absolutely to die for. She’s the luckiest person ever, living in Belgium. She’s able to layer up and wear as many layers as she wants. I love her androgynous kinda way of dressing, while still looking supa cool and edgy. A leather jacket for Cato is essential, paired with an awesome metallic skirt. Also, bomber jackets + her signature glasses are the way to go!! One last thing, her bedroom is like heaven. Honestly I am so jealous, and could not even step CLOSE to how good hers is aah!
Anyway, I hope you got a taste of Cato, and how awesome her world is. U can catch her on her blog http://www.hellotwigs.blogspot.com.au or her insta @catoandrssn.
Cya soon!

Wow, you look so cool! You are fortunate that you can find your own fashion style in this age. Trends may come and go, but nothing will ever beat your personal style.
