Hey
I’m back in Sydney, back at school and back into the old routine. I had a week and a bit to kinda snap back into everything before school started, and now it’s all back to normal – Italy already seems like so long ago!
I’m not sure why I was finding this post so hard to write – I haven’t had anything to write about so I figured I just wouldn’t write anything. I still don’t know what to write about!
It’s summer right now (if you hadn’t noticed) and usually in summer I tend to get into this mode where I kinda just don’t do anything because I just cannot be bothered (I hate to say it but writing this post included). My weekend attire consists of the same shorts, the same black shirt, the week consists of schoolwork, work and more schoolwork. As I said before, it’s an ongoing routine. So in the midst of this weird mode I’ve subconsciously gotten myself into, I have come across a few things that have lifted my mood drastically. Here are some of the things I’ve listened to/read/seen/watched/ate:
- Dear Ijeawele – this little book is a feminist manifesto that is a must read for everyone. My mum gave it to me (thanks mum), and I think that it’s important to read in order to lift that stigma around being a feminist. Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie writes so clearly, and has helped me to understand a lot more about the world and the way we view things.
- Notting Hill – I must admit I had not seen this until I went to Italy. If you haven’t already seen it, please do me a favour and watch Notting Hill ASAP. Thanks. You (probably) won’t regret it.
- With school starting up again, one of my favourite ‘walking-to-school’ songs is I’ll Be Seeing You by Billie Holiday. It tends to put me in a very good mood which is quite rare for the time in the morning that I listen to it.
- I went to a little exhibition today by a German artist called Katharina Grosse, where she spray-painted over 800sqm of canvas. The aim was to walk in and feel the same feeling that you have when you walk into a room and forget why you needed to go in there in the first place. It was pretty cool.
For my outfit, I rediscovered this lovely little top by Daniel Avakian that was given to me a while ago but only just fits me now.
